Statement by ANC on 1 year of illegal presidency 08.04.2009

ANNOUNCEMENT

April 9 marks the so-called year in office and the exotic oath taking of the kleptocratic regime's second leader, Serge Sargsyan. An oath-taking which the usurper dared to actualize in the desolation created by depopulating the center of Yerevan by a radius of a few kilometers and under the alert watch of armed forces.

During his tenure in office in the past year, Serge Sargsyan։

- By not punishing the hundreds of law breakers during the elections of February 19, and, by taking them all under his protection, he demonstrated that he, too, was one of the architects and commanders of the hellish mechanism of election violations;
- He did everything to cover up the barbaric massacre of peaceful demonstrators on Freedom Square in the early hours of the morning and the bloody slaughter of the participants of the peaceful, spontaneous meeting. Only by his orders was it possible to not even begin criminal proceedings based on the evidence of the death of 10 citizens. With that, he showed that he was not only aware, but was at least the co-author of, that terrible state and national organization;
- Continues to keep 55 political prisoners hostage at the cost of completely mocking and discrediting the entire judicial system, pushing dozens of judges, prosecutors, investigators and policemen into criminal activity
- With his orders, law enforcement authorities have persecuted, harassed and subjected to terror dozens of thousands of citizens, have stripped many of their jobs and their livelihood, demonstrated by his despicable vindictiveness, a characteristic that is incongruous to the position he holds;
- He has elevated economic monopoly to new heights and simultaneously begun a new process of redistribution of ownership. Both are extremely dangerous to an economy already weak in resources and in the clutches of financial crises. Hundreds of middle and small business and thousands of individual entrepreneurs have reached the brink of economic collapse. Every day thousands of people are losing their means of securing their most basic needs;
- When all over the world there is an unprecedented drop in prices, in Armenia, prices go up. Knowing full well that his illegal and criminal rule is condemned, Serge Sargsyan and his administration have engaged, with abandon, in a final round of looting and theft, thereby also taking revenge on an entire population that doesn't accept him in any way;
- Not only does Armenia remain under the monitoring of PACE, but in the course of the past year it has managed to bring three reports disadvantageous to the authorities, and which denigrate the country's international standing;
- In order to extend his own rule by yet another day, Serge Sargsyan has put the national interests of the country to an international auction. The problem of Nagorno Karabagh has reached a point where he will either have to sign a settlement which is the least advantageous of all proposed to date, or, involve the country in a destructive war;
- The issue of the Genocide of the Armenians has also been taken to a similar auction. Agreeing to the creation of a commission of historians, a ridiculous proposal made by Turkey many years ago, Serge Sargsyan in essence has cast doubt on the 1915 Genocide of the Armenians, placing, on the one hand, those countries which have officially recognized the Genocide, and on the other, obstructed other possible recognitions in the future.

Thus, in the course of the past year, Serge Sargsyan has entered a quagmire in the area of domestic politics. The thousands of violations of human rights, the carnival of illegal acts perpetrated by state structures, the manifestations of spreading anarchy, assassinations where criminals are not punished, and the deepening criminalization of the administration, have turned the entire people against him.

He has entered a similar quagmire in the sphere of foreign policy, by degrading the country and national interests into small currency within the complex relationship with major countries. In both cases, his "achievements" are enough, for any political figure with even an elementary sense of human and political dignity to accept terrible failures and submit his resignation.
